Dog & Cat Treat Safety
Treats should be fun and safe. Here's how to give them the right way.
Treats Only — Not for Human Consumption
Treats vs. Toppers vs. Complete Food
These three things are not the same. A treat is an occasional snack. A topper is a small extra added on top of a pet's regular meal. A complete food is formulated to be a pet's full, balanced diet. Unless a specific MNB product label says it is a complete food, treat it as a treat or topper — not a meal replacement.
Know the Intended Species
Every product shows its intended species. Give dog products to dogs and cat products to cats unless the label says otherwise. Cats and dogs have different nutritional needs.
Safe Feeding Tips
- Feed in moderation — treats should be a small part of your pet's day.
- Introduce any new treat slowly to watch for tummy upset.
- Supervise your pet while they enjoy a treat.
- Break treats into appropriate sizes for your pet to help prevent choking.
- Always provide fresh water.
Storage
- Store sealed in a cool, dry place.
- Check the label for ingredients, best-by date, and feeding directions.
Allergies & Health Concerns
Every pet is different. The product label is always the source of truth for ingredients. We do not make allergy-free claims. If your pet has allergies, dietary restrictions, a medical condition, or special nutrition needs, consult your veterinarian before offering any new treat.
